The Intensive Pediatric Constraint Induced Movement Therapy Program.

Elizabeth will be starting an intensive therapy program at Kennedy Krieger at the end of April. The program is called The Intensive Pediatric Constraint Induced Movement Therapy Program. Elizabeth’s Physical Medicine doctor really encouraged us to do the program.

The therapy program is an intensive 20 day program. She will start April 28th and will go until the end of May. It is 20 sessions long. I will have to take her to Kennedy Krieger every day for an hour session. The therapist will actually cast her good arm (her right arm) and she will receive physical therapy and occupational therapy on her left arm. The program is designed to help the individual build up muscle in their weaker arm and hand. Currently Elizabeth does not really use her right arm and hand. It is the doctors hope that with this therapy she will start to use it more.

The constraint therapy program she is going to do is specially designed for children under 2. There are other programs for older children as well. This program is very intensive and it is really going to be emotionally draining because Elizabeth is going to get very upset. Pray that we all can stay strong and the therapy is a success.

I am hoping to get into the Ronald McDonald House again in May. I do not want to have to take her every day back and forth. It is a lot of driving and time spent in the car. It would be 3 hours of driving per day. That is 15 hours a week in the car! I really don’t want to have to put her through that. Pray we get it in friends! We will not know if they have an opening until the middle of April most likely.

I will keep you all posted on how the program is going.

  1. Even though the family is constantly in our prayers......we'll send more for everyone during this time. Getting those muscles moving early is a real plus. Thinking of you Melanie.....when you feel tired, let us pray for you :).
